.Clean Drinkable Water The lack of drinkable water in Haiti is a major health
problem. Typhoid epidemics and infant mortality from diarrhea
are often directly related to the poor quality of drinking water on
the island. The majority of our community development projects in
Haiti are assisting the people to provide low-cost, low-maintenance and sustainable sources of
drinkable water. We do this by drilling wells, capping
springs, and installing pumps on gravity-fed systems.
Quality Education
Fifty percent
of the men, women, and children of Haiti can't read and write.
Schools are well attended, but few in number, and about 90% of them
are private and not affordable by many people. Public schools offer
families the opportunity to send their children to school at a much
reduced cost. Haiti Outreach works with communities and the
national government to create viable public schools and raises money
to help build them, as the national government does not have to
money to do that. It can cost $130,000 - $150,000 to build a basic
concrete public school building.
