Help Build a Public Secondary School in the Town of La Victoire

The town of La Victoire, 8 miles east of Pignon, has had a public primary school with its own building for years. However, they have NO public secondary school building. The government has no money to build it. Because the parents wanted their children to have more than a 6th grade education, they have rented classroom space from a local private school for the past six years. But that school has told the parents, teachers and administration that they will no longer rent the building to them. The result is that they are being kicked out of this building and have no other building where they can have their school.

The community leaders contacted Haiti Outreach, asking for help to get them their own public secondary school building. Some Rotary Club members from Minnesota and Wisconsin, traveling to Haiti with Haiti Outreach, found this out and decided to help raise funds to build this community their own school building. To forward this effort, they created the Rotary Partnership for Haiti (www.RotaryPartnershipForHaiti.org). This web site will explain this project in detail.

As of August of 2009, about $100,000 of the $200,000 needed has been raised. Our goal for having this money is the end of 2009, but no later than February, 2010, so that the construction will be done in time for school to open September 1, 2010. Will you help? Your donation and that of your family, church, workplace, or civic group could help put us over the top to get this much-needed school building built.

Without their own public school in this town, most students will have to end their education at 6th grade. A few families who have the money would possibly send their students to board their students with strangers and pay them room and board, along with the school tuition, in order for them to get a high school education. Imagine doing that with your 7th grader! Please email us at info@haitioutreach.org and let us know how you can help make secondary education a reality for hundreds of students in this town for years to come.
