Become actively involved in the work of Haiti Outreach through the Adopt-a-Well Program!
In this program, an individual or group sponsors a specific community managed well in rural Haiti, pledging to raise the needed funds to bring sustainable access to clean water to this community. Each community has its own story – where and how far people have to go to get contaminated water that they bring home daily for their families to use. We work to keep sponsors informed as to the progress of the community. Once the funds are raised for the adopt-a-well, the Haiti Outreach animator team begins the process of engaging the community in the steps:
- Train a volunteer water management committee on the maintenance and long-term sustainability of the well
- Educate community on sanitation and hygiene, including importance of basic latrines for each home
- Drill the well and accompany community in a ceremonial inauguration
- Follow up with the community through monthly monitoring and support
Reaching the goal set by our Haiti Outreach team to drill 70 wells and train community leadership would impact 15,000 – 18,000 people every year! But in order to do this, we need to raise the money to maximize our capacity. The cost of each well from training, to drilling, to monitoring costs $15,000. Of course, if the sponsoring group can only raise part of the $15,000, Haiti Outreach will do its best to find another group to partner with to reach the goal.
We encourage well sponsors to travel to Haiti during this process to visit the community, especially the well inauguration. It is a truly special trip to see first hand the impact of your efforts and support.
This is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of people in one of the poorest countries in the world, not only for today, but for years to come. Become a sponsor and literally save lives with clean water and sanitation education!
