Last year Alex and Heiko underwent an amazing journey – they hiked around various countries and continents to help raise support for Clean Water in Haiti!
Their journey was incredibly fruitful for them as people and for Haiti Outreach as they raised over $45,000 to fund three community wells! Read more about their journey and return on their blog here!
Since their return home to Germany, Alex and Heiko have both sold their home, started new jobs, and joined a new Rotary Club Bensheim- Südliche Bergstrasse. As a Rotary Club, their goal is to help empower people in need to be autonomous and flourish. Their motto is, “help for self-help,” and the sustainability of the initiatives they fund are crucial.
Given that water is an essential resource for people, helping with the global water crisis is one of the priorities for Rotary’s commitment to improving the world. Unfortunately, corruption is a problem in many developing countries, and Haiti is no exception. For that reason, the greatest concern Rotary has about a country like Haiti is the lack of certainty that the money will truly go where it is needed.
Since Alex and Heiko have seen first-hand that the money does go towards helping the people in a sustainable way, this club is very excited about forming this partnership with Haiti Outreach! As a club, they are confident that their support will achieve lasting improvement people Haiti! Their goal is to raise $18,000 – enough to provide a community with a clean water well!
