In the community of Low Feja Mirbalais, children and adults had to walk 30 minutes to get contaminated water from this water hole just to survive. But today, thanks to the community development work of Haiti Outreach, in collaboration with Water.org, this community has a clean water well that their water management committee has been trained to maintain. This picture shows the spring that the children walked to EVERY DAY. Their new clean water well is within 10 minutes of all the community’s 51 homes which allows more time for the children to study and do their homework, and for the adults to grow food and expand their gardens. Only one home initially had a latrine in this community, but after learning about proper sanitation in the Haiti Outreach community development program, 22 additional families built their own latrines.
Pictured here is the new well and protective house around it that were built by Haiti Outreach, with funds from many generous people like you. The new well was inaugurated on June 28th, 2013. The health of the community members will now improve with clean water and proper sanitation. Please click on the Donate button today to help others get a community managed clean water well. Thank you!
