Aderbal Norvil, nicknamed “Odino” has been the head mechanic and now the Director of Logistics for Haiti Outreach since 1999. “Logistics” for Haiti Outreach includes maintaining all the many vehicles we have, including 3 well drilling machines and the trucks that bear them, 2 water trucks, a well repair truck, a number of pick-up trucks, 4 wheelers and motorcycles. Keeping them in good working condition is the responsibility of Odino and his department.
Odino, who is 45 years old, was born in Fort Liberté, Haiti, and moved to the Pignon area when he was 12 years old. He is married with 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls, ages 3 to 19 years old. Before he worked for Haiti Outreach, he worked as a mechanic for a local missionary and the hospital in Pignon.
In addition to his full-time work for Haiti Outreach, Odino also harvests sugar cane on his land and does the initial processing of the cane juice. After some of the water is boiled off, he then sells it to the distillation businesses that turn it into a clear alcohol called “clarin”, which is eventually is made into rum.
Neil Van Dine, the Country Director of Haiti Outreach, had Odino as one of his students back in 1990 when Neil was first in Haiti and set up a handyman school for students to learn the basics of mechanics, carpentry, masonry, etc. We are very pleased that Odino is part of our staff.
