Matinot Saintilus is a man of few words, but great dedication and work ethic. Born on September 25, 1987 in Pignon, a small commune in the Northern department of Haiti, he began his primary studies at a local Presbyterian School and his secondary studies at the Collège de la Grâce de Pignon. Passionate about new technologies, he moved to Port-au-Prince in 2009 to join the UNIKA University to study Computer Science. His education is one that could open many doors for him beyond the borders of Haiti. However, Mathinot considers it important to stay and devote his skills to the development of his home country.
He returned to Pignon in 2015 and began working at Haiti Outreach as an IT manager in the Monitoring and Evaluation Department. In his role he organizes, monitors and implements the entire infrastructure of the organization’s IT system. Additionally, his work has helped us to further develop the geo-mapping system that Haiti Outreach uses to collect the valuable data that guides our strategic decisions.
He feels very grateful for the opportunity to work with our team and expressed, “The work I get to do at Haiti Outreach has changed my life tremendously. I’ve learned so much more working at Haiti Outreach than I ever could have learned in school, and in particular about the GIS (geographic information systems) mapping technology. I also grew so much in my ability to collaborate and work in a team, something I had not done before.”
Beyond the scope of his responsibilities, Matinot feels fortunate to be part of such an essential mission. He shared that, “The work done by Haiti Outreach for my country is enormous! Since this organization addresses how to change the mentality of the Haitian people for the better, the results are palpable in all the communities where Haiti Outreach operates. Communities that commit to the process and working hard can have a well. They each have clean water close to their homes thanks to the dedication of Haiti Outreach and its partners. How can we not encourage such a noble mission? ”
Outside of work, Matinot leads an exemplary life with his wife and two children, in whom he has instilled a love for hard work. He may not be the most verbose, but his influence and the respect of his community is evident. Those who know him say he is a brilliant computer scientist, and his work at Haiti Outreach affirms that.
