Ms. Lucien Welnise Tesline is a brilliant young lady who resides in the North-East Department of Haiti, in the Commune of Trou du Nord. She is part of the community of Pichon that has received a water well from Haiti Outreach.
She is the only girl in a family of 7 children, and her parents are: Eugénie Beliazard and her father is Altéus Lucien.
A voracious and dedicated learner, Ms. Lucien has been very fortunate to attend elementary through high school. She had hoped to study Management and Accounting at a University as well, but her family doesn’t have the means to support this dream.
Though she was initially disappointed that she could not go to school, she did not allow disappointment to embitter her. Instead of giving up motivation or blaming her parents or circumstances, she put her energy into a new solution.
Ms. Lucien took it upon herself to go to the market and purchase cacao to make chocolate and other ingredients. She used the food she purchased to make cookies that she has cleverly named: Douce Koko Double (Sweet Double Cocoa). She regularly walks through the streets to sell her cookies to people in her village. Her plan is to use her profits to save enough to be able to go to University one day.
Ms. Lucien is a true entrepreneur and an excellent example of what can accomplish through determination and perseverance!
