KAROLINE WELL INAUGURATION

On Sunday, October 29, 2023, the community of Karoline inaugurated their very own community managed clean water well. This community of 41 houses and 205 people had been looking forward to this day for nearly two years. Present at the inauguration were the mayor, the local government representative to the commune of Cavaillon (called the AZEK), five members of the Rotary Club of Les Cayes, which were the local Rotarians who helped to oversee this project for HANWASH, the water management committee, the Haiti Outreach community development trainer, a representative from DINEPA, the national government division responsible for potable water and sanitation throughout the country, and 20 members of the nearby village of Gwayev, who recently inaugurated their own well, along with the children and adults of the community of Karoline.

There were a number of speeches from these various representatives, encouraging the population in attendance to take very good care with managing their well, so that it could last for many, many years to come. There was some music and dancing, along with the symbolic passing of the keys to the well house from Haiti Outreach, to Rotarians, to the well management committee. This well was paid for by the Rotary Clubs of Tortola, of Road Town, and the Sunrise Club of Road Town, all of the British Virgin Islands.
